HP x360 Spectre
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

I noticed issues with my space bar and touchpad. It is very annoying and frustrating.  Today, I picked it up and noticed that the base is warped.  Doing some research, I see that batteries can bulge.  Why does this happen?  I don't keep the laptop in hot areas.  Is HP providing any support to this?

I appreciate any help that can be provided.

Welcome to the HP Community.

Proper storage of the computer is important.

Unfortunately, the result is not always due to the storage / use methods - batteries of this type can fail quietly or catastrophically.

===============================================

"Fat" Battery / Bloated Battery / Swollen Battery – Sealed / Internal Battery

  • Swollen battery might be hiding OR there might be evidence that the battery has inflated.  For example, notebook case is warped, touchpad stops working, “odd” bulging near the keyboard.

  • If the battery is in a swollen or bloated condition, the battery must be removed from the computer and replaced.  There are no other remedies, tests, or useful options.

From HP

>>> HP Support > Battery Swelling / Swollen – Start Here

OR

Purchase a battery and Fix it yourself...

Open Product Home

Open Category Manuals

Find and open the Service and Maintenance manual

Search for "Battery" to find the replacement procedure and part number(s)

If the part is not available from HP Parts Store

then

Purchase a compatible battery from your favorite local online merchant.

For example, if you like, check for the part at Amazon.
