Common problems for Battery
We would like to share some of the most frequently asked questions about: Battery Reports, Hold a charge, Test and Calibrating Battery . Check out this link: Is your notebook plugged in and not charging?
HP Recommended
HP250 G5
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

Charging works only when laptop is turned OFF. This started around 2-3 months ago ... 3 months after my 1 year warranty expired. :Crying:

When OFF: when battery is not full, power led is continuous orange... charging works, Once battery is full, power led changes to continuous white. This is as expected.

When ON: charger is not detected. Power led is cotinuous white. Battery is not charging.

Tried: re-installed Micorsoft battery drivers, bios downgrade and upgrade, settings left and right, measured AC volatage 19.4V, replace power supply, tried many forums suggestions .... no ideas left :Crying:

Any ideas?

How long have you had the notebook?

Is it still in warranty?

Had you considered using the HP PC Hardware Diagnostics UEFI utility? See the link below.

https://www.google.com/url?sa=t&rct=j&q=&esrc=s&source=web&cd=1&cad=rja&uact=8&ved=2ahUKEwj9xtbEvJrf...

If you have the latest version of the HP PC Hardware Diagnostics UEFI utility installed, it has component tests for the battery and power.  You should consider testing the power adapter and running the Windows battery report to determine the current state of the battery..

For details on running the Windows  bettery report, see the Knowled Base Article that I wrote.  See the following link.

Hi Erico,

 thanx for the quick reply.

I bought the laptop in April 2017. No more waranty, plus I opened the laptop today to measure the input voltage (19.4 V).

I run the HP PC Hardware Diagnostic tool. Battery check OK. Cannot run power tests as it says I need to plug in the adapter.

Below baterrs report. It seems the problem started begining october, in november it worked again for a while than again stopped working

I suggest that you read the knowledge base article that I wrote a bit more carefully.

It would seem that either there is a hardware issue at the DC power connector or on the system board's charging circuitry.

Run the system board test.

Hi Erico,

great article, read it 3 times. Already did all the steps you mentioned.

HP's PC Hardware Diagnostics UEFI utility

- battery test OK

- board tests and all other tests OK

- power test cannot be executed as no power supply is detected.

Run the tests both from windows and via F2 after boot. Did it and tried to do it maybe for 20 times

Did power reset for ~10 times ... no help.

Unistalled the "Microsoft ACPI Compliant Control Method Battery" for many times. Also trieded in combination with power reset. no help.

Downgraded bios and upgrade it again.

Anyway as I said in november it seems for couple the times like a "miracle" is started working again. maybe some updates? no idea.

Maybe you can read my original description more carefull  ... I followed already your article + other 10 articles.

It seems the solution is to pray and live with it. Maybe Santa will fix it :Glasses:

Warranty is gone and a new mainboard is too expensive for the laptop, no idea if it will even fix the problem.

Gracias HP.

magic. battery is 0% for 1 hour now. Laptop still running.

When I pulled the charger it immediatelly turned off.

It looks like at least when there is 0% the charger is used. Batter is not charged and window says that charger is not connected.

There were some specific bits of information that I asked you to provide.

If you are not able to do that, I really can't help you.
