I've seen this pen referred to in the manual as HSA-W001P, but other sources online refer to it as an HP rechargeable MPP 2.0 tilt pen. It initially worked fine without any need to install software. I've been using the laptop for university and the pen has been a godsend with making notes quickly.
It's been working fine, but I just went to plug it in and charge it using a USB-C cable and the port on the side of the laptop it was bundled with (HP ENVY x360). It flashed the amber charging light for a split second, and is now completely unresponsive.
I charitably thought that the issue could be the charging light itself and left it plugged in for a good 20 minutes to see if it would work, and it has not. It's utterly dead.
Is this a known issue? Can I replace the internal battery somehow? Replacements online for the entire pen are looking at £30 via more disreputable sites, so I'm hesitant to use those, especially with how difficult it was trying to identify the pen in the first place. The more reputable ones I'm looking at easily £80 for a pen. This is basically the last thing I need right now, and I just really want to know if there's another option.
