HP Pavilion dv7t Quad Edition PC
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

Hard Disk Error displays on startup:  Hard Disk 2 (3F2).

The computer has been operating perfectly for 7 years.  Operating system upgraded to Windows 10 when Win 10 became available.  Updates are current.  The failure to boot occurred co-incidentally after the most recent update had been installed successfully.

Hard Disk Test (Quick and 2 hours) Passed  (2 drives recorded in Error Log).

Memory Test failed:  Failure ID:  6C57PQ-68F9NT-QFPK1F-405903 Memory Module

Tuneup Test failed:  Failure ID:  6C57PQ-68F9NN-QFPK1F-403R03 Memory Module

Do the results of these tests indicate that the hard drives are operating properly?  There are two of them:  Product #: A3G03AV 1.5 TB 7200RPM Dual Hard Drive and Product #: A3G06AV 32 GB mSSD Hard Drive Acceleration Cache.

Do these tests indicate a failure in the system memory?  Part #: A3F91AV 8GB DDR3 System Memory.  If so, if these are replaced, will the problem be resolved?

Thank you, MCQ2

I translated the error codes you provided and they indicate a failure of the memory modules. It would be really unusual to have 2 modules go out at the same time so I might run memtest86 on them to be 100% sure the memory is the problem.

The free version of this is fine. Make a bootable usb stick from the download site and boot the computer from it. You get a text only interface and just let the test run. It can take several hours but will confirm whether memory is bad.

If the hard drives are tossing off no error code they are likely OK. You seem to say the hard drive passed but also say you got a 3F2 error on disk 2. That would likely be the 32 gig mSSD module.

It would help us to have your full model number.

Post back with any other questions and please accept as solution if this is the info you needed.

The Model Number is A3F79AV HP Pavilion dv7t-7000 Quad Edition Entertainment Notebook PC

I was able to boot into Win 10 by changing the boot order (after pressing F9 several times) to boot from 'Hard Drive,' instead of from EFI file.  I am not sure what that means.

The boot process was very slow.   I am not sure if it is running slightly slower.

I have not yet run memtest.

Well the 32 gig mSSD is designed to speed up boot times so by bypassing it you will slow it down quite a bit.

It appears you may have problems with the 32 gig mSSD and with memory modules. See p. 69 of the Manual for access and removal instructions.
