Hello, I have been wanting to expand my storage on my HP Pavilion gaming laptop. It is model 15-dk1056wm. I have seen where others with similar laptops have been told there either is a place already, or they would simply need the mount for that to be possible. If not of course I can use an external SSD on the fast usb-c 10gbps port but would that be as good as a mounted SSD? If it would be better to mount a ssd to the motherboard and i need a mount bracket for it, what exactly would i search for? (model?) Thanks for your help!

Hi,
The best idea would be to replace the M2 PCIe NVMe SSD as it is much faster than any 2.5" drive. Then reinstall the OS on the new drive.
There is no limit to the actual capacity of the drive. Something like the Samsung 980 would be great and might even run faster.

On page 41 of service manual you can see the steps to replace the drive

You can create a bootable drive with the OS on it directly from Microsoft
You could also insert a 2.5 inch drive
you will need at least the hard drive cable (part number L56898-001

is it possible to insert a second Solid state drive and use the original for system files etc? Some people show or say that instead of just a 2.5" drive bay that it's a caddy and you can install a m2 Solid State Drive inside there instead of a 2.5" drive. Or possible to replace that with a NVME M2 SSD? If not i guess i could replace the existing one. Thanks for y our help Lomare!
