Pavilion 17-g121wm
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)
This is the second laptop (same model) in 6 mos that the hard drive has failed. I ran the system test and it read: Smart check (passed) short dst (failed) failure id- 9LPWW1-85P8AJ-MFPX6J-60UT03
Harddrive 1.......then no hard drive installed. Before it failed, I was using it and windows had a very small box pop up (NVR seen it before) and the screen had a white cast go over it.

That error indicated that a storage device has failed.

If your notebook is still in its warranty period (standard free warranty -1 year), then the hard disk can be replaced under warranty at no cost to you.

Check your warranty status Here.

Please explain in detail what you mean by the following statement. I have no idea what the specifics of that statement mean. I don't have ESP. 😉

No ESP! Lol I bought this same model back in July, and the harddrive failed on it after 3weeks. There was no warning. The screen went black, and that was it. I talked the store into exchanging it for another one. I love HP, so I thought it was just a fluke. Now this one did the same thing. Unfortunately, this has caused me to lose my job.

Thank you. Do you know if items on the harddrive can be recovered before I send it? I don't want to get ripped off by someone if it's not possible.
HP Recommended

It is a requirement to include the hard drive when you send it in.

It is already useless and it is only recoverable at great expense.

The recovery is also not guaranteed to be 100%.

An immutable fact of the digital age is that hard drives do fail. That is why most of us back our data to an external storage device.
