HP Pavilion 15-p027tx (4th i7, 8 GB/ 1 TB)
Microsoft Windows 8.1 (64-bit)

Hello,

My PC showed 'Diagnosing Your PC & Automatic Repair' loop while I tried to start it. After hours of waiting ,similar message and blue screen display, I opted for extensive test which shows 'Hard drive short dst check failed'.

(I was using my laptop with direct cable since past 8 months as the battery was not working..)

Do I need to replace Hard Drive along with the battery ?

Yes you do.

Service Manual

Battery p. 76:

4-cell, 41 WHr 2.8AH Li-ion battery 756743-001

https://www.amazon.in/SellZone-Laptop-Battery-HP-756743-001/dp/B07FRL63PX/ref=sr_1_4?keywords=756743...

For the hard drive start on p. 80, skip the part about replacing the screen and then go to p. 105.

You currently have a 1 TB 5400 rpm SATA mechanical hard drive which provides limited performance potential.

You might consider upgrading to a solid state drive. Post back if interested in that.

Thanks for the info..

I have taken my PC to nearest HP service center. They reinstalled OS and somehow made it to open(Data in C drive was lost). Even now the test result shows the same and when asked they were telling to use as long as it runs.

But I want to replace both battery and hard drive as I don't want to take risk about further damage of the system due to that.

Do you support my decision ?

I am sure the Service Center was trying to save you money. You do not suggest they had anything to say about the battery and obviously if its dead it needs replaced, right? For me, personally, if the hard drive gives an error it needs to be replaced. Period. I would not trust my data to a hard drive with errors. At a minimum even if you follow the Service Center's advice, please back up all the time.

Sure. I was going to ask them to replace both battery and hard drive.

Thanks for the quick response and detailed information.😊

And could you please give me your suggestion on solid state drive over hard drive ?

HP Recommended

Yours can only use a 2.5 inch SATA SSD and they are broadly compatible so you can shop primarily on price. The 2.5 inch SSD would be installed just like a hard drive using the same mounting and attaching hardware.

Here is a top of the line 500 gb model:
