Hello,
I tried to install 1TB hard drive to my HP 17T U100 laptop to expand the laptop's storage and found out that the Hard Drive connector never got installed by HP. Is it a defective product?

Hi:
I see that your notebook has a M.2 SSD.
Unless the notebook came from HP with both a SSD and a 2.5" drive, none of the parts are included to add a 2.5" drive.
It is like that on almost every HP notebook that came with a M.2 SSD with very few exceptions.
You would have to locate and buy the additional parts required to add a 2.5" drive.
Below is the link to the service manual.
See chapter 3, page 15 for the additional parts needed to add a 2.5" drive.
(17) Hard drive cable (includes double-sided adhesive) 857835-001
(18) Hard drive rubber bracket 857826-001

I bought and have these 2 items:
(17) Hard drive cable (includes double-sided adhesive) 857835-001
(18) Hard drive rubber bracket 857826-001
The problem is the motherboard does not have the connector's clip to insert the hard drive cable.

I have the same issue as this user/thread below:

I don't work for or represent HP.
You can take that matter up with HP at the link below, but I don't see where it is going to get you since that other person got replacement motherboards and none of them had the hard drive connector.
