What was the resolution on this for the users having the issue? My computer was working fine this morning and now will not turn on. Hard reset options such as pressing power for 1 minute are not working. I am hoping I can resolve this without having to bring it in but that doesn't seem like a possibility.

I called HP support and I ended up going to thier service center.  I leave my laptop there and they had to change the motherboard and the power button board.

Sounds like what they're going to have to do for me too. I had to send it off unfortunately. Have you had any issues since it was repaired? Did you lose any data on your hard drive?

i have tried the one minute hold, two minute hold - nothing

Unfortunately my fix was to replace the motherboard.  It didn't lose hard drive data but I did have to send it off to get repaired and was without my computer for a while.

I want to know how to shutdown a stream X360 like I can with my laptop that has a removable battery I get a better shutdown that way . With a regular laptop you pull the battery and then hold the power button down for like 30 seconds to a minute and it's supposed to deenergized the hard drive and give you a real restart. Help?

@elevin

Welcome to the HP Forums 🙂

I would like to take a moment and thank you for using this forum, it is a great place to find answers.

As I understand you want to perform a hard reset to de-energize or remove excessive static off the computer,

Don't worry as I'll be glad to help you, although, to provide an accurate solution, I'll need a few more details to dissect your concern:

Do you have any issues with the computer while you shut down normally via the start screen power options?

Did you attempt any steps on your own before posting on HP Forums?

That said, To perform a power reset on a laptop with a sealed or non-removable battery, use the following steps:

  1. Turn off the computer.

  2. Remove the computer from any port replicator or docking station.

  3. Disconnect all external connected peripheral devices such as USB storage devices, external displays, and printers.

  4. Unplug the AC adapter from the computer.

  5. For most laptops, press and hold the Power button for 15 seconds to reset. If your laptop model is l...

  6. Plug the AC adapter back into the laptop computer, but do not connect any of the peripheral devices.

  7. Press the Power button to turn on the computer.

  8. If a startup menu opens, use the arrow keys to select Start Windows Normally, and then press the Enter key.

  9. After Windows opens, reconnect each peripheral device that was disconnected, one device at a time, until all devices are reconnected.

  10. Your laptop has been reset. After a power reset, it is a good idea to run Windows Update and HP Support Assistant to update all device drivers. See Updating Drivers and Software with Windows Update (Windows 10, 😎 and Using HP Support Assistant (Windows 10, 8, 7) for more information.
