My laptop doesn't boot anymore and the diagnostic tool came out with a failed drive error: UC2CR0-86Q99K-MFPX6J-60UL03
As I need to substitute the hard drive I am thinking of getting an ssd one. Could you link me to a guide on how to, and would the Samsung 860 Evo 500GB be compatible?
Thanks in advance.

Yes, you can use Samsung 2.5" SSD for your machine. Since your machine previously ran Windows 10, you can do a clean install W10 for free by using the media creation tool at the link below.
https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/software-download/windows10
The tool will allow you to make a bootable installation media (USB/DVD) and you can use installation media to install.
During the installation process if you are asked to enter a product key, check the 'Skip' box and W10 will install and then automatically activate once you are connected to the internet using the key embedded in BIOS of your machine.
Then you can install the drivers and available software you need from your PC's support page.
Page 31 of the following manual shows you how to replace remove and install HDD (or SSD).

My suggestion: why not go for 1TB.
Regards.
