Hello, I would like to know which are the m.2 hard drive models compatible with this laptop. I want to upgrade my 256GB SSD to 1TB

I would like to know if this model is compatible:

SAMSUNG 980 SSD 1TB M.2 NVMe

I would also like to know what would be the best 1TB option for this Laptop.

Another question, is Generation 4 NVMe SSD also compatible with my Notebook?

After changing my SSD, I would like to migrate my current operating system to the new SSD, if possible keeping all the files, but my Notebook only has one SSD port, how can I do in this case to migrate my current SSD to the new SSD?

Hi:

The Samsung 980 1 TB NVMe SSD should work just fine.

That would be my first choice.

Your notebook's M.2 slot is PCIe Gen 3.

While a Gen 4 SSD would work such as the Samsung 980 Pro, you would not get the benefit of the faster sequential read/write speeds.

You would have to purchase a USB 3 to NVMe enclosure and clone the hard drive to the new SSD that way.

Something like this...

Thanks for your help. Is there any software you can recommend me to clone the OS from my current SSD to the new SSD? These devices bring integrated software for this?

You're very welcome.

I use the free Macrium Reflect software to create system image backups and clone drives--the software under the Backup at Home section, left side.

If you also want to use the software to create system image backups, along with the system image, make sure you create the bootable DVD or USB rescue drive you boot from to access the system image stored on your portable hard drive.

Thanks for your help.

I would like to install the same version of Windows with HP Support software on my new SSD, I think it is really not necessary to make a clone of my old SSD, my question is if HP software can not provide me with some bootable version of Windows with all the supporting software, drivers, etc, to install on my new SSD?

Hi:

Yes.

Your PC should be supported by the HP cloud recovery tool which you can use to create a bootable USB recovery drive that will reinstall W10, the drivers and the software that originally came with your notebook.

Make the recovery drive now before you replace the drive.

Here is an info link for how to use that utility...You will need a 32 GB USB flash drive to create the recovery media.
