Hi all,

ran the diagnostic tests and received following,

HARD DRIVE failure ID: M0EE1S-6LN966-9XNJ2H1-60Q803

SYSTEM (E) FAILURE ID:  M0EE1S-6LN95W-9XNJW1-60UF03

USB PORT FAILURE ID: M0EE1S-6LN95W-9XNJW1-8D2F03

BATTERY - PASSED PRIMARY WEAK (31)

My question is since battery is weak, needs a new hard drive and I’m down one USB port, am I better off with a new notebook, or is this 4 year old one worth investing a new hard drive on?  When I turned it back on this morning after forcing a shut down a few days ago I received an error telling me that it had shut down because it was running too hot.  I haven’t been using it for a while, and hard drive seemed to fail over time, it has been runnng quite warm, so probably needs a new fan also.

If it’s worth saving, is it worth increasing from current hard drive of 1TB 5400RPM?  Or just replace with same?

Thank you.

Hi,

If you calculate the cost of parts plus the time and effort and all the taxes? Its like buying an up to date computer with a decent specs 🙂 Let it go 🙂

Wow, okay.  It started to fail 2 years in, and I increased the memory, hoping that would help.

Now it’s less than 4 years old and time to replace?

I guess I’ll start shopping, but I’ll stay away from HP products if they have such a short life...

Thanks for your reply!

Hi,

I've been using my HP Prodesk small form factor PC since 2015 and it never failed on me.. The thing is you have to take good care of your unit. When we say "take good care" it doesn't end in making sure that the physical side is unharmed but also the software side which is will make your computer exceed its life expectancy.

Technically. Laptops and Desktops have different lifes spans depending on the usage, Quality and upgrades. You might get a laptop that could last up to 6 years although battery wont likely last that long. On the other hand, lets say you have a Desktop computer with a huge memory 8GB for example. Your computer will be powerful enough to handle common computing task for the next 10 years or more..

According to a survey. HP goes 2nd in terms of quality and battery life.

  • Lenovo (86/100) Lenovo takes first place again this year, on the strength of the company's fantastic product lineup. ...
  • HP (85/100) ...
  • Dell (82/100) ...
  • Acer (81/100) ...
  • Asus (81/100) ...
  • Microsoft (77/100) ...
  • Apple (72/100) ...
  • Razer (70/100)

Again, its how you take good care of your computer. Making sure that the software is to up to date. That includes BIOS, Windows Update, and drivers.

Stay away from Tune up programs that promises good benefits. Your computer dont need them. They will only consume space to your hard drive and worst is you may get a bundled adware that comes along with free applications. Also make sure your computer is on elevated position to avoid dust accumulation and stop eating infront of your computer.

Dont's

- Dont place your computers on a carpet. It'll suck dust up and debris like a gosh-darn vacuum.

- Place it where you can access headphone jacks/usb, so don't put it facing the wall or something of that nature.

- Avoid eating near your computer. Food debris might get sucked up and ants will most likely create a colony inside 🙂

Hope this simple reminders will help you in the future.

ichi
