I believe my hard drive crashed & needs to be replaced. What hard drives are compatible with my laptop? And how do I install it?

What leads you to believe that your hard drive crashed?

What, in detail, are the symptoms? If there is no fail code it may be still useable.

Is your notebook still in warranty?

What is the product number of your notebook?

hint: Look at the bottom of your notebook amongst the tiny letters for the ProdID. Post it in your next reply to your thread.

From the applicable Maintenence & Service guide:

Supports 6.35-(2.5-in) SATA hard drives in 9.5 mm (.37 in) and 7.0 mm(.28 in)/7.2 mm(.28 in) thicknesses

That equates to  compatibility with SATA-3 notebook legacy hard drives  and SATA-3 (TLC) 2.5"  SSD products

It says no hard drive installed when I do system diagnostics. When I boot up my computer, I have a black screen that says:

Boot device not found

Hard disk (3f0)

F2 system diagnostics

My notebook is not under warranty.

The product #V9S70AAR.

I found this hard drive on Amazon, it's it compatible?

Thanks for the product number.

Is the system diagnostics you are using by use of the F11 keystroke?  The HP PC Hardware diagnostics is located on the hard disk in a partition.

You should try reseating the hard disk.

Yes, that notebook hard disk is compatible with your notebook.

No it's by pressing F2 when the computer boots up to that black screen. Should I press F11 instead?

No. Sorry. I meant to say F2.

Actually it may be worth a try to see if pressing F11 brings up the HP Recovery Manager.  That would be an indication that would mean that the hard drive is OK.

So when I pressed F11 as it was starting up, it just went to a blue screen & stood like that. What does that mean? Also, sorry for the delay. I've been sick the past couple of days but thank you for all of your help.
