Pavilion Power 15-cb0xx
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

I have an HP Pavilion Power Laptop 15-cb0xx bought about 3 years ago and have recently received an hard drive failure message with Failure ID: GPJBW4-8RLAB9-MFPURF-60SP13. On running the System Diagnostics, I get an error in short DST test but it passes the long DST test.  Also, I ran the chkdsk command without any parameters and no errors were reported on bad sectors or files. I tried searching for the failure ID without much success as most of the threads talk about a different, much severe hard drive failure ID suggesting a replacement.

Firstly, I would be thankful to know what type of hard drive failure the failure id actually represents. Also, the error message appeared after my laptop shutdown abruptly due to low battery power. So. could it actually be a false  alarm? If its not, are there other ways for further diagnosis or is replacement of the hdd the only option.

Thank you for your help!

Hi:

The reports generated by the failure codes are not very helpful.  Here is the report generated by the code you posted, minus your notebook's serial number.

Failure Information
Failure ID Tag Checksum HP Serial Number Test Date Failure Code Device Includes Error Message
GPJBW4-8RLAB9-MFPURF-60SP13OKXXXXXXXXXX12/26/20303StorageFloppy Drive, Hard Drive, Memory Drive, Optical Drive, SCSI, Tape DriveHard Disk 1 Quick Test Failure

The only way I know of to get rid of the code, would be to replace the drive.

I would recommend backing up any files you need to save onto a portable hard drive.

If you want to continue using the notebook the way it is, you can continue to do so until the drive finally dies.

It could be a false alarm, but if the failure code pops up every time you start the notebook, then it probably indicates there is something wrong with the drive.
