Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

I replaced my hdd with an ssd and put the old hdd (1 TB) in the optical bay using a caddy from newmodus.  The hdd is sometimes available and other time just gone.  Sometimes when I boot up and go to explorer right away the hdd is there but when I click on it explorer hangs up and then sometimes it will show the folders on the hdd after a while and sometimes the drive just disapears.  I can reboot a few times and sometimes get it to show up and work just fine.

There are no cables in the caddy, just a plug for the hdd and then the bay side internal plug.  Could this be a IDE vs. AHCI thing?

here are my hardware ids for my Intel 8 series chipset family SATA AHCI controler:

PCI\VEN_8086&DEV_8C03&SUBSYS_2291103C&REV_05
PCI\VEN_8086&DEV_8C03&SUBSYS_2291103C
PCI\VEN_8086&DEV_8C03&CC_010601
PCI\VEN_8086&DEV_8C03&CC_0106

and I think these are for the disapearing drive, but I had to get them with it connected via USB

SCSI\DiskASMT____2115____________0___
SCSI\DiskASMT____2115____________
SCSI\DiskASMT____
SCSI\ASMT____2115____________0
ASMT____2115____________0
GenDisk

The HDD is ASMT 2115 SCSI Disk Device

The hdd works just fine when I take it out and plug it into a USB port.

Also, when the hdd is not detected it seems to slow things down.  Rebooting from the samsung SSD should be super fast but it seems to be hunting for a while now.  When I take out the HDD caddy it runs fast/normal again.

This all may be moot if we go underwater from Harvey down here in TX.

I was indeed the caddy.  Replaced it and all is good.

Hi,

Did you reformat the old HDD before installing it ? The old HDD may still contain a signature as system drive that causes some hiccups.

Regards.

Yes, the HDD was formatted and works just fine occationally in the bay and always from a USB.

Hey guys any help out there for this one?  I reformatted the hdd and same problem persists.

Solved: the caddy was defective.  Replaced it and now it works fine.
