Hi Newzz,

I'm reading from your computer's Maintenance and Service Guide here and I found out that it uses Serial ATA or, from my understanding, SATA I. You have two options:

1. Purchase a SATA I SSD

  • Will perform at 1.5 GB/s
  • Maybe more cost-effective

2. Purchase a newer generation SATA II or III SSD

  • Maybe faster access times but absolutely no benefit over purchasing a SATA I SSD
  • Slight chance of compatibility issue

Replacement procedures are located on pages 59-61 of the guide posted above. I also found this helpful video which should align itself almost precisely with the instructions of the guide: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Pzvq91E2Ac4

Furthermore, I would recommend the Samsung 850 EVO: https://www.amazon.com/Samsung-2-5-Inch-Internal-MZ-75E250B-AM/dp/B00OAJ412U

However, your computer will not be able to reach the advertised speeds of the 850 EVO since it has an older SATA interface. If you choose to go for option 1, I think an HP Expert would be able to give you good recommendations as I am not very familiar with SATA I.

Hope this helps,

Hi Newzz,

That points to a hard drive failure. The only thing you could do at this point is backup your data and replace your HDD. If you need recommendations or steps to replacement, just post back.

Hope this answers your question,

Hi Newzz,

No problem.:smileyhappy:

I would need a more specific model/product number but I do suspect that it uses SATA III and an HDD.

Instead of getting an HDD, I would recommend investing a bit more money and purchasing an SSD (solid state drive) which performs much faster compared to an HDD.

However, to provide accurate replacement procedures and suggestions, I would need an accurate model/product number. Information on how to find a laptop's model/product number is detailed in this HP document: https://support.hp.com/ca-en/document/c00033108

For now, I would recommend backing up your important data.

Awaiting your response,
