Microsoft Windows 11

When I run the HP PC Hardware Diagnostics tool, it keeps cancelling my AC Adapter check.

To start at the beginning, about a week and a half ago I began to see a message when I plugged the laptop into my AC adapter that the adapter was wrong and performance would be affected. I didn't get a screenshot at the time. The machine does not get used off the AC power, it only gets plugged and unplugged my it gets moved around in the house.

I then noticed that performance in some 3D games began to suffer with frame rate dips. I updated video drivers, checked performance settings, etc. but couldn't figure out what was going on.

This computer is my son's, and I bought 2 at the time, identical machines, one for him and one for my daughter. I tried her AC adapter on his machine and got the same error message. I am pretty confident the adapter is not the issue, but the error message keeps popping up.

I am about 4 months out of warranty, so I look up a local place that is an authorized HP repair location and take the machine there. I explain the problem, the troubleshooting I have already done, and explain that I think the issue is hardware related. They do nothing about the hardware, perform only software tests and cleanup, and give the machine back to me the next day. While at the store I try the games that were causing problems, and the issue is still there. I am however not able to duplicate the error message I received when I plugged the AC power in.

They say they will keep looking at it, but a few days later they call back saying they are done with the machine, and I just have to settle for lower performance. Again, they have done nothing with the hardware.

Once I get the machine back home I decide to go with the nuclear option and reinstall windows. The issue is still there, so it doesn't seem like a software issue. This leads me back to thinking the issue is hardware.

I have run both of my AC adapters through the Hardware Diagnostic and they both get cancelled. The diagnostic tool is the latest version 2.2.0.0.

I have also run both adapters through the UEFI version of the diagnostic software and they both get cancelled out of that process as well. The UEFI tool is also the latest version (9.1.0.0 I think)

For good measure, I ran both adapters through the exact same tests on my daughter's machine and they both pass.

I also checked the firmware on the BIOS and it is the most recent.

This all leads me to believe that the issue is hardware on just the one laptop, but what further troubleshooting can I do to determine what the exact issue is? I could throw money at it and replace some internal cables, but there has to be a better way.

Thanks for reading all the way through. Any help would be appreciated.
