HP 255 G8 Notebook PC (59T83EA)

Hello, I got a sudden hardware error on my laptop yesterday at 10:25 pm. I have used my HP 255 G8 for barely a year and I don't know what is happening with it. I use Serbian localization of Windows.

I saw that Microsoft defender antivirus was scanning my laptop at 10:27 pm as it says. Before that, I was browsing google and using it as normal. All I saw is that it lagged a bit when I switched windows, but that happens every now and then (probably due to high RAM / disk utilization at the time).

However, I should note that it is not the first time I got the "live kernel event" error. I would be very thankful if someone can point me in the right direction to solve this problem, as I have no idea.

I attached a screenshot of the reliability monitor and antivirus report for context. For clarity, "Poslednje skeniranje" stands for last scan time.

Thank you.Snimak ekrana 2023-12-20 183111.pngSnimak ekrana 2023-12-20 183313.png

Is that Windows 10 or 11?

Have you used the HP PC Hardware Diagnostics UEFI utility to run a system scan?

Power on and press the F2 key to invoke it. Run a system scan.

It is most likely that there is a graphics driver issue, especially if you check Windows or HP update and notice there was a recent update to a driver just days before this happened.

Your laptop's driver and software download web document.

Thank you for replying. It's Windows 11 Home (22H2). I have updated the HP PC Hardware Diagnostics UEFI utility and I ran the fast system test, it passed thankfully.

Though I cannot directly confirm that it is related to the driver issue, I would never expect a brand new laptop to have a hardware error in all honesty. If anything, there was no prior warning at all, it was / is working normally.

I attached the images of the test. (cropped to reduce size and omit the serial number as they are taken on my phone camera)

The error is an operating system driver issue, Windows 11 in your case, not an actual hardware device failure.

It is an issue with a driver of a hardware device in the laptop's hardware device architecture.

This is something that happens to every laptop brand.

I suggest looking at the Windows update history and the HP driver update history as well to see what has happened.

I looked through my update history both in Windows and HP support assistant - there are no recent driver updates, the latest update was the BIOS one.

Graphics driver is a whole another story - the newest drivers always introduced random screen flashing and I even had my laptop crash once because of the driver. I have the AMD Ryzen 5 5500U (lucienne) with integrated Radeon graphics.

For some odd reason, the driver that was installed through HP assistant (about 8 months ago) caused my AMD host software to stop working (and caused several screen issues among others), so I had to practically reinstall everything. Though, please don't ask me how that whole process went.

I will look further into the supposed hardware error part tomorrow.

*Edited due to post lag*

Thanks for clarifying. As I said, I will look into it tomorrow to see if there's anything I miss.

I suggest installing one of the older drivers from the HP driver download web page to see if that improves the situation.

Installing the AMD graphics driver also refreshes the chipset drivers.
