HP Pavilion 15-bc014nl (ENERGY STAR)
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

Hello,

I would like to know if I can upgrade my HP Pavilion 15-bc014nl hardware.

1. Replace the actual GPU (Nvidia GeForce GTX 960M) with a more performant one. In the Maintenance and Service Guide there are instructions to replace some devices except for the GPU hardware: why?

2. Expand the RAM capability. Actual capability is 16 GB: may I double it?

Device features:
Processor Intel(R) Core(TM) i7-6700HQ CPU @ 2.60GHz 2.59 GHz
Installed RAM 16.0 GB (15.9 GB usable)
System type 64-bit operating system, x64-based processor
Edition Windows 10 Home
Version 20H2
OS build 19042.867

Thanks in advance for your support.

Federico.

Hi, Federico:

There is no procedure to remove and replace the GPU because it is an integral part of the motherboard.

The only way to upgrade the graphics would be to replace the motherboard with one listed in chapter 3 of the service manual that may come with better graphics.

That would be very expensive to do if you could even find the parts you need, and would provide a poor return on investment.

Memory...

In theory your notebook will support 2 x 16 GB of DDR4-1200 memory because it has the  i7-6700HQ CPU.

However, chapter 1 of the service manual indicates the max memory is 2 x 8 GB, so install a 16 GB would be an experiment on your part.

If you want to experiment with adding the 16 GB chip to the 8 GB chip even though the manual indicates that 2 x 8 GB is the max, you can do that, and then someday add the second 16 GB chip after removing the 8 GB chip.

These would be compatible memory chips for your notebook...
