Hello,

Recently I purchased  an MX500 2.5'' 1TB SSD for my laptop. After removing the cover and getting inside, I unplugged the HDD from the motherboard and removed the SATA cable from the HDD. That's when I noticed that the pin layout for the SATA cable and the pins on the SSD were completely different. In that, the cable had less pins than the SSD, meaning not all of the SSD pins would make contact with the cable's pins. I've looked up M.2 SSD, but according to the laptop's manual, you need some sort of adapter for the M2.

So my question(s) are

  1. Will my SSD still work even if the pins are different from the cable?
  2.  Do they sell cables for SSD for my laptop?
  3. If not, then do they sell adapters for the M2?

Thank you for reading.

What is the brand of its old HDD ? All SATA 3 2.5" HDD's or SSD's use SAME pins layout. Must be very strange.

Regards.

So it's still SATA, but as you can see the cable has only 8pins max on one side, while the SSD has 15 pins. So my concern is that the since the cable doesn't have enough pins, there might be some trouble when in use.
