Hey, just had a technician visit today and he cleaned my laptop and applied new thermal paste. Wondering how long it takes for the thermal paste to fully settle and start working effectively? Currently, while gaming, my CPU temp is hitting around 98°C. Any advice?

Hi @Akshansh3,
Welcome to the HP Support Community!
Thanks for reaching out about your query regarding your PC!
We're thrilled to have the opportunity to assist you and provide a solution.
Try these steps:
After applying new thermal paste, there is typically a "curing" period where the thermal paste will become fully effective. However, this curing period should not significantly affect your CPU temperatures immediately after application. Given that your CPU temperatures are hitting around 98°C while gaming, this is quite high and likely indicates that there may still be an issue that needs addressing.
Here are a few steps and tips you can follow to manage and potentially reduce your CPU temperatures:
Ensure Proper Thermal Paste Application:
- Confirm that the thermal paste was applied correctly. Too much or too little thermal paste can lead to poor heat transfer from the CPU to the heatsink.
Check Your Cooling System:
- Make sure that the laptop's cooling fans are working properly and not obstructed by dust or debris.
- Ensure that the cooling system is adequately venting hot air out of the laptop.
Use OMEN Command Center (if applicable):
- If you're using an HP OMEN laptop, use the OMEN Command Center to monitor system vitals and fan speeds.
- Adjust the fan settings to high performance to increase cooling efficiency.
Gaming Surface and Environment:
- Ensure you are gaming on a hard, flat surface to allow for proper airflow.
- Avoid using the laptop on soft surfaces like beds or couches, which can block air vents.
Check Background Applications:
- Close any unnecessary applications running in the background that could be using CPU resources.
- Use Task Manager to identify and shut down non-essential processes.
I hope this helps.
