Laptop heatsinks do not fail, unless they have been inadvertently broken.
Do you mean the fan instead? Are you getting 90B error messages?

Interesting. This is the first time I have heard of a laptop heatsink having a crack.
As an HP Expert colleague of mine is fond of saying, "anything is possible".
The 90E error message means that the power supply fan is not connected or may have malfunctioned.
A picture is worth a thousand words.
Can you post a digital image of what you are describing in your next reply?
