Hi @cnmarin,
Welcome to the HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query. I will be glad to help you.
You’re right, if the camera works inconsistently on Google Meet and other apps, it’s often a driver issue. Here’s how to get the correct HP webcam drivers for Windows 10:
Step 1: Identify Your HP Notebook Model
- Press Windows + R, type msinfo32, and hit Enter.
- Note the System Model (e.g., HP Notebook 15-da0xxx).
Step 2: Download Drivers from HP
- Go to HP’s official support page: 👉 Official HP® Support
- Enter your exact model number.
- Select Windows 10 (64-bit) as the operating system.
- Look for:
- Camera Driver (often listed under “Driver – Keyboard, Mouse, and Input Devices” or “Driver – Multimedia”).
- If no dedicated camera driver is listed, HP uses Microsoft inbox drivers—so update via Windows Update.
Step 3: Update via Device Manager
- Press Windows + X → Device Manager.
- Expand Cameras or Imaging Devices.
- Right-click your webcam → Update driver → Search automatically.
- If that fails, choose Browse my computer → point to the HP driver you downloaded.
Step 4: BIOS and HP Support Assistant
- Install HP Support Assistant and run Updates. 👉 HP Support Assistant | HP® Support
Step 5: Test in Google Meet
- Open Google Meet in Chrome.
- Go to Settings → Video → Select your HP camera.
- If it still fails intermittently, disable hardware acceleration in Chrome:
- Settings → Advanced → System → Turn off hardware acceleration.
💡 Tip: If the camera disappears from Device Manager, it could be a hardware or privacy shutter issue. Check if your notebook has a camera kill switch or function key (Fn + F10).
I hope this helps.
Take care and have an amazing day!
