Hi -
I got a Smart Check: Passed Short DST: failed test. I believe I need to replace my hard drive. Can someone please help me figure out if this hard drive will work with this laptop? Is there a max of 256GB?
Also - I need to find a way to get my windows key on the new hard drive, any advice on this?

Hi, Lauren:
Your notebook originally came with a 1 TB 2.5" mechanical hard drive.

The 2.5" solid state drive you selected would work just fine, but if you want more space, I would go for this 500 GB model.
Also the SSD Plus is good, but the SSD Ultra is better. It has faster read and write speeds. I have both models in a couple of notebooks.
This one would also work fine and it is a tiny bit cheaper. Has the same specs and is made by the same company that owns Sandisk. I also have one of these.
After you replace the drive, using another Windows PC with W7 64 bit or newer, use the HP cloud recovery tool to create a bootable USB recovery drive that will reinstall W10, the drivers and the software that originally came with your notebook.
Here is an info link for how to use that utility...
