HP Pavilion x360 Convertible 15-br1xx
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

Hello - I need help with finding the right SSD thats compatible with my laptop "HP Pavilion x360 Convertible 15-br1xx"

Product Number: 2DT04UA#ABA

I do lot of video editing and graphic work and the system is really on its knees most of the time. While browsing online I found upgrading the HDD may help this. Could someone please help me with finding the right part or if possible a link to the product?

The support application shows I currently have "TOSHIBA MQ04ABF100 - 931.51 GB" which am sure is not an SSD.

Thanks much in advance.

Your machine is an HP Pavilion x360 - 15-br158cl, its specs

         https://support.hp.com/au-en/document/c05825214

It has   1 TB 5400 rpm SATA but you can only see 900 something due to the way Windows and manufacturers count bit and byte. You have two options

(a) Replace HDD with 2.5" SSD using

    https://www.crucial.com/products/ssd/crucial-mx500-ssd
    https://www.samsung.com/semiconductor/minisite/ssd/product/consumer/860evo/

Or similar from reputable vendors. For example SSD from Crucial

       https://www.crucial.com/ssd/mx500/ct1000mx500ssd1/ct11936426

(b) Add M.2 SATA SSD to your machine using  (M.2 format)

    https://www.crucial.com/products/ssd/crucial-mx500-ssd
    https://www.samsung.com/semiconductor/minisite/ssd/product/consumer/860evo/

You are correct. The Toshiba is a legacy hard disk.

You can replace it with a 2.5" SATA SSD.  See the link below for sources for memory and SSD for your notebook.

https://www.crucial.com/compatible-upgrade-for/hp---compaq/pavilion-x360-15-br158cl

You will find that bumping the onboard memory to 16 GB will help as well.

Thanks for the response @banhien . This definitely helped me to find the right direction.

I went to a local best buy store today and the associate showed me SAMSUNG 970 EVO Plus NVMe M.2.

I would like to upgrade the memory to 16 GB from the current 8 GB. The product I saw in the store is PNY 8GB 2.4GHz PC4-19200 DDR4. What is the max memory I can upgrade to?

Could you please let me know if these are compatible with my laptop? Also, how easy/difficult are these upgrades to do it myself. Are there any instructional videos that can help me on this? The local best buy is pretty backed up and they dont have any slot open for installation for the next 3-4 weeks.

Thank you so much for all your help 🙂

Thanks, @erico. I did not realize I currently have only 8 GB and thanks for the recommendation. Yes, I'll definitely try to upgrade to 16 GB. The local best buy showed me two products (SSD & memory) and I want to check if they are compatible and if I can do the upgrade myself.

That Samsung SSD they showed you is not the correct interface. The BIOS is not likely to recognize it. Your notebook accepts M.2 /NGFF  - SATA  interface, not the NVMe. The NVMe will be a waste of your funds and valuable time.

Follow Crucial's recommendation if you want it to work correctly the first time.

The maximum installed memory figure that I would believe is what Crucial stated. that would be 16 GB.

@banhien Thanks much for your reply. Could you please point me to any video / instructions to install the 2.5" version or m.2 version of the SSD? Also, I'm planning to upgrade my laptop's memory as well and any guide for that would be appreciated. Thanks for your support in this regard.
