HP Notebook - 15-af151sa
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

Something strange happened with my Notebook. Normally the 'Function' keys work as volume, brightness etc just by pressing them, and if I want to use them as function keys I have to press fn+the key I want.

Inexplicably, pressing any of the function keys now operates them as a function key - so for example if I press F7 it no longer turns the volume down, it asks me about turning the Caret browsing on. Pressing F3 now brings up search rather than brightness.

The volume and brightness keys no longer work! As far as I know I didn't change anything.

Does anybody have a solution? Thank you

Is this the right forum for this query?

Is there a way I can speak to HP about this problem, and I don't mean the Virtual Agent, because I tried her and it was not helpful - I just went round in circles

yeah I tried going through the BIOS and disabling/enabling the action keys mode but it hasn't solved the problem
