i would prefer to get the laptop to 64GB ram or 32, can you please advise me on what type and models are compatible with the laptop:

@Kulghar,

Welcome to our HP Community forum!

For the HP Pavilion Gaming 15-dk2080nq, you should choose a 32GB kit (2 x 16GB), as it is the most stable and practical maximum for this chassis.

Whilst HP's official service documentation technically rates the maximum capacity at 32GB, third-party memory tools from Crucial show that the motherboard's Intel Tiger Lake processor can physically address up to 64GB (2 x 32GB). However, upgrading to 64GB would be a massive overkill for this specific machine; the entry-level Intel i5-11300H CPU and RTX 3050 Ti GPU will bottleneck heavily in demanding workloads long before you would ever come close to use 64GB of RAM.

Whether you are going to buy 32GB or 64GB, you must purchase RAM matching these absolute physical and electrical parameters to ensure your laptop boots up:

  • Form Factor: SODIMM (260-pin for laptops)
  • Generation: DDR4
  • Voltage: 1.2V
  • Speed: 3200 MHz
  • Profile: Standard JEDEC (Absolutely do not buy aggressive XMP gaming RAM, as this laptop's locked HP BIOS cannot change voltage profiles, causing XMP kits to get trapped running at their slow baseline default speed)

Top RAM Option: Crucial 32GB Kit (2x16GB) DDR4 3200MHz (p/n: CT2K16G4SFRA32A) or the Crucial 64GB Kit (2x32GB) DDR4 3200MHz (p/n: CT2K32G4SFD832A). This RAM is universally considered amongst the safest, most compatible plug-and-play RAM for HP laptops.

@Kulghar,

Looks like that should work, but it would be nice to know what specific part number it has.
