HP Notebook - 15-db0186au

Hi,

I have an HP laptop, model number HP-15db0186au, and I'm planning to upgrade the RAM and install an SSD. I need some help with the following:

  1. Does my laptop have an M.2 slot? If yes, what type of SSD (SATA or NVMe) can I install via the M.2 slot?
  2. I also want to install a caddy in place of the optical drive. What size of caddy is compatible with this model?
  3. Which type of RAM is supported by my laptop? Please share compatible product links for the RAM upgrade.

Thanks in advance for your guidance!

Hi @idhiraj01,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

Your HP 15-db0186au laptop is equipped with an AMD Ryzen 3 2200U processor, which supports upgrades for both RAM and storage. Let’s address your questions one by one.

M.2 Slot Availability and SSD Compatibility:

  • M.2 Slot: Unfortunately, the HP 15-db0186au does not come with an M.2 slot for SSDs. So, you're limited to using a 2.5-inch SATA SSD as a storage upgrade in place of the existing HDD.
  • SSD Installation: You can install a 2.5-inch SATA SSD (like the Samsung 870 EVO or Crucial MX500). These SSDs will replace the current HDD in your laptop.

Caddy for Optical Drive Replacement:

  • Your laptop comes with an optical drive (DVD/CD) that you can replace with a caddy to add another storage device.
  • Caddy Size: The HP 15-db0186au likely requires a 9.5mm SATA optical drive caddy, which is the standard size for many laptops. You can insert a 2.5-inch HDD or SSD into this caddy to add more storage.

RAM Upgrade:

  • Type of RAM: Your laptop supports DDR4 SODIMM RAM.
  • Maximum RAM Supported: It can support a maximum of 16GB DDR4-2400 MHz RAM across 2 slots (8GB per slot).
  • Recommended Upgrade: If you want to upgrade, you can install two 8GB DDR4-2400 SODIMM sticks. Some compatible RAM modules include:
    • Crucial 8GB DDR4-2400 SODIMM
    • Corsair Vengeance 8GB DDR4-2400 SODIMM

Note:

  • Storage: Replace the existing HDD with a 2.5-inch SATA SSD (e.g., Samsung 870 EVO).
  • Caddy: Use a 9.5mm SATA optical drive caddy to add additional storage.
  • RAM: Upgrade to a total of 16GB DDR4-2400 MHz (two 8GB sticks).

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
