So I have a Hp omen 17- 2019 with RTX2070 and i7-10750h and stock adaptor with 230 watt. Normally I have no problem with my adaptor but for the last one year I have a discharging problem while in game, for the daily using it works normal. So there are 2 option. First one is, my adaptor is dying after seven years and needs to replace. The second one is due to updates and new AAA games, I need a better adaptor.  So what I am asking is, despite I have a 230 w stock adaptor, is it possible and safe to use 280 W adaptor, is my laptop competible with it.

Thanks for your response and I understand the difficulty of your situation. 
 

For HP laptops, it is important that the voltage and connector type of the adapter match exactly with the original specifications. The wattage (230W vs. 280W) indicates the maximum power the adapter can deliver. Using a 280W adapter in place of a 230W one is generally safe as long as the voltage and connector are identical. The laptop will only draw the amount of power it requires, not the full 280W.
 

So, to answer directly: if the voltage or connector type differs, it could damage your system. HP recommends using the exact adapter model specified for your laptop.

I completely understand how  it must feel to see your HP Omen 17 slowly discharge during gaming sessions, especially when you’ve taken good care of it all these years. 

 

Here’s some clarity:

Game power demands: Modern advanced games  and driver updates can push your RTX 2070 and i7-10750H harder than before, sometimes exceeding the steady output of an aging adaptor.

Compatibility with higher wattage: HP designs each Omen model with a specific power profile. While a 280W adaptor might sound like a safe upgrade, laptops are only guaranteed to work properly with the wattage they were designed for. Using a higher-watt adaptor won’t necessarily harm the system, but it is recommended and may not provide any benefit if the laptop’s internal power circuitry is capped at 230W.

 

next step: The safest option is to replace your current adaptor with the same 230W model specified for your Omen 17. That ensures full compatibility and avoids risks. If you’d like, 

 

 If the issue persists even with a new adaptor, then it could point to battery health or motherboard power regulation, which a HP service center can check.

Firstly thank you for your reply. I understand that design capacity of laptop but I just replaced my battery with an original battery 1 month ago. So we can assume that problem is not about battery. Moreover, since my laptop is a 7 years old product, services in Türkiye don't accept my laptop for repair. And we know that due to the prices in Türkiye it is hard to get a new laptop or even new adaptor. I wish hp could give a new adaptor to their loyal customer but since we know that it is hard to do, I need a specific answer like "Yes you can use 280w as long as voltages matches" or " No you have to use a new 230 w adaptor"
