My HP Compaq laptop 17.3 is out of warranty and the hinge is broken. It is cracking if I try to open or close. I have to just use it like a desktop and can't take it anywhere. I have contacted HP customer service and told they will not help even though this is a major issue with HP laptops. They offered to fix it for around $400 and I bought it for $499!! I will be purchasing a new laptop but not an HP again.

Hi @Sherpetey

Thank you for sharing your experience. I’m really sorry to hear about the hinge issue on your HP Compaq laptop—especially when it limits portability and day-to-day use. I completely understand how disappointing that can be, especially given how close the repair cost is to the original price of the device.

While it’s out of warranty and repair pricing can vary depending on parts and labor, I know that doesn’t make it any easier. If you haven’t already, you may want to explore local certified repair centers, as some offer more cost-effective options than going through full-service channels.

Your feedback is truly valuable, and it’s unfortunate that this situation impacted your experience. If you have any questions about data transfer, choosing your next device, or safe recycling options for your current laptop,

I’d be happy to help however I can.

Regards,

Hawks_Eye.

I'm an HP Employee.
