I would like to be able to charge my laptop in my car. The original ac charger lists its output at 18.5vdc.
I bought a power cable with the correct size connector that plugs into the car. I thought it would just charge more slowly on 12vdc. However, my laptop reports "pluged in-not charging". The laptops battery level drops normally so it must really not be charging.
All the results I get in searching hp support don't address this issue.

Hi,
I would suggest this one: http://www.targus.com/in/product_details.asp?sku=APV018AP
Belkin is also manufacturing product like this:

You can use original laptop power cord and adapter to plug it in the inverter charger.
