My HP 250 G5 Notebook has a relatively new replacement battery, which passes HP Support Assistant diagnostics, but I want to be sure to do all that I can to maintain the battery well.
Can anyone who knows advise me, which daily activity is best for battery longevity?
1. Run the PC with mains power always connected, to maintain full charge?
2. Charge to 80-100%, then run off charge to allow the battery to discharge to about 20%, then recharge it, repeatedly?
3. Something other than 1 or 2?
I am aware that all Li-ion batteries support a limited number of recharge cycles, but I wonder if it's best to keep the battery charged, or recharge only when needed. Also, is it best to keep the battery operating between 20% and 80% full charge, as I have read?
TIA,
David

Hi, David:
it is not advisable to leave the notebook's battery in a constant 100% charge state as that can lead to battery swelling.
#2 seems the most logical but I would charge to 100% and then let it go down until the battery saver indicator comes on which is when you should consider recharging the battery.

Thank you, Paul. That's what I expected to hear.
I suppose it's better to accept that eventually the charging cycle lifetime limit will be reached - do you know what that is, by any chance? - instead of risking damage by continually charging. My previous experience of HP laptop battery longevity has not been impressive.
Also, I wondered if it is "good" for the battery to get regular exercise?
Li-ion batteries are very much in the news these days, so maybe their performance will improve in time. It is not my usual practice to be optimistic about such things.

You're very welcome.
I would not know the answer to your question, but according to this link there is a way to generate a battery health report in Windows.
