replacement laptop with no name given
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

My laptop won't stop forcing a repeated update, always unsuccessful because it's already updated. This update is a driver for my clickpad/touchpag/mouse (whatever you wish to call it). As you can see in this image, this is already an old-ish(still most recent) update - it's dated August 2017, and it's already 2019; it's been forcing my pc to shut down for a long time and I'm so sick of it! It is never going to successfully update because HP Support Assistent already* updated it instead long ago when it first came out!!! It is long already up-to-date yet it won't stop this crap!  Attached is a pic I took of what I see. I have already deleted the driver altogether and restarted the computer. It's still doing it. Weird huh? I really don't want to have to refresh/reset my laptop and download all my stuff all over again (again - again) - like printer software, GPS software, word processing software (things I've bought seperately that don't re-install automatically - that I will have to fetch from where I bought them for another copy/download). Anybody???

Hi:

See if running the Hide Windows Update utility from Microsoft prevents that update from installing...

It didn't work. It showed me other updates, but not the one I'm talking about - it was kind of weird, even using the term "hidden" updates. I didn't want to do anything with the 2 updates it showed, which are reoccuring but not in the same way (like Microsoft Silverlight). Goes like this: Run the installed show/hide thing you referred me to download; after running, it give 2 options (yes, even did the 2nd "show hidden updates just to see what would happen since option 1 didn't work to get a feel of what's what here; it just said there are no hidden updates); upon clicking the 1st "hide updates" as you recomended it shows (see pic #2) only 2 updates which neither are the issue; I click neither since neither are the issue and click "next" and it says it couldn't find any problems and end/finish.

Credit to you for the good idea though - thanks for that great effort to help. According to science, it's good to cancel out what doesn't work - so maybe this is a step closer somehow. So, it's not that/this. Hmmmmmm..... Next idea (if any)?

You're very welcome.

Sorry that didn't work for you.

Yes in a perfect world, that update should have shown up if it hadn't installed yet, where the other two are.

That update is coming from Microsoft, so I was hoping that utility would detect it and you could check the box to stop it from installing.

Is there a newer touchpad driver you can install on your notebook's support page that might prevent that MS update from running?

I know the support assistant installed a newer one than the one MS is trying to install but maybe there is yet a newer driver.

What if you go with the driver that MS is trying to install and ignore the driver update from the HPSA?

It might be easier to deal with it that way.
