I assume your SSD is a 2.5 inch SATA kind so you just need to substitute the SSD for the hard drive. It does also have an M.2 slot for the newest coolest "gumstick" type drive and it can take a SATA or NVME kind and it can even support an Intel Optane memory module which is just a 16 gig NVME M.2 disk.

Yes, unfortunately, those cases are tight and they sell nylon pry tools to open the cases without marring or cracking the case.
Some folks use old credit cards.
Did you remove the screws under the rubber 'feet?'

There is a technique to it. Get an old credit card or a nonmarring spatula tool. Find a crack to start working by the hinges or on the screen side. Work the tool in and start moving it to start the clips unhooking. Once you get it going it comes apart like a zipper.
