Hello,

I plan to swap out my failing SATA HDD for a new drive. However, I want to keep (transfer) the OEM partitions (two showing in Disc Management, each the same size but one indicated NTFS as File System, the other nothing).

I want to keep them because of the useful HP diagnostic tools in them, not for the system restore options as a Windows 10 (clean install) does not need 'other' restore/reinstall options. Is there any way to do this? Or, to (100% certain) restore/replace/download them once the hard drives have been swapped out?

Tks,

Redmoon Wolf

Hi,

There is no need to migrate an image to the new drive if you only need the HP diagnostics tools and partition. You can install once you have created the Windows 10 clean install. Look at this HP support page under the heading "Installing the latest version of HP PC Hardware Diagnostics (UEFI)" where it is explained. You can also create an external usb diagnostics drive for testing.

Here is download page for the various HP diagnostics tools:

Hope it helps,

Bingo, exactly what I needed to know (find) David. I thought that (comprehensive tool set) might have been a 'one shot only' on the original hard drive. Thank you...and for your speedy response as well! 🙂
