Hi @westernkid,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

If the keyboard on your HP ENVY x360 15.6 Inch 2-in-1 laptop is not responding or appears to be locked, there are several steps you can take to troubleshoot and potentially unlock it. Here's what you can do.

Check for Physical Key Lock: Ensure that there isn't a physical key lock on your laptop keyboard. Some laptops have a key combination or a physical switch that can lock the keyboard. Look for any icons or labels on your keyboard that might indicate a keyboard lock, and try toggling it if applicable.

Restart Your Laptop: Sometimes, a simple restart can resolve keyboard issues. Restart your laptop and see if the keyboard starts working again after booting up.

Check for Software Issues:

  • Check for Updates: Make sure your operating system and drivers are up to date. Outdated software or drivers can sometimes cause keyboard problems.
  • Run a Malware Scan: Malware or viruses can interfere with keyboard functionality. Run a full system scan with your antivirus software to rule out any potential threats.

Try an External Keyboard: If you have access to an external USB keyboard, you can connect it to your laptop to see if it works. This can help determine if the issue is with the laptop's built-in keyboard or a broader system problem.

Check Keyboard Settings:

  • Access Ease of Access Center: In Windows, you can check if the keyboard settings have been altered. Go to the "Ease of Access Center" in the Control Panel and ensure that the keyboard settings are set to their default values.
  • On-Screen Keyboard: You can use the on-screen keyboard to type while troubleshooting. In Windows, you can find it in the "Ease of Access Center."

Reinstall Keyboard Drivers: If you suspect that the keyboard drivers are causing the issue, you can try uninstalling and then reinstalling them.

  • Right-click on the Start button and select "Device Manager."
  • Expand the "Keyboards" section, right-click on your laptop's keyboard, and select "Uninstall device."
  • Restart your laptop. Windows will automatically reinstall the keyboard drivers.

Boot into Safe Mode: Boot your laptop into Safe Mode (press F8 or Shift + F8 during startup, depending on your system). If the keyboard works in Safe Mode, it's possible that a third-party application is causing the issue.

Check for Physical Damage: Physically inspect the keyboard for any visible damage, such as loose keys or spilled liquids. If you find any, you may need to get the keyboard repaired or replaced.

Reset Your Laptop: If none of the above solutions work, you may need to perform a system reset or reinstall the operating system. Ensure you have a backup of your important data before attempting this step.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
