I'm using a hp17-137cl.  I can't find info about how much memory I can add, or if I can have a SSD installed in addition to my HDD.  I'd like to move it up to 64GB DDR4 DRAM and add a 256 - 512 GB SSD.  Can anyone help...

Thanks,

Apache6

Welcome to the HP Forums 🙂

I would like to take a moment and thank you for using this forum, it is a great place to find answers.

As I understand you need information on upgrading to an SSD,

No worries, as I'll be glad to help you, that said, I'll need a few more details to dissect your concern & provide an accurate solution:

You had a product tag of HP 17-x137cl & you've mentioned that this is hp17-137cl, is it former or the latter?

Did you check your user manual/service guide for details? Click here, if you haven't.

While you check that out, here's what I found:

(tested & approved by HP)

M.2 SATA-3 SSD

● 256-GB

● 128-GB

There are no SSD's tested by HP as shown in the service & upgrade guide, however, it should support up to a max of 2TB for SSD if you are planning on removing the HDD and using the SSD instead, that said, I'm afraid we don't have an option to use both HDD & SSD at the same time, unless it's the m.2 SATA that being upgraded.

If I have helped you resolve the issue,

It looks like it can have an HDD OR an SSD (M.2)

I wrote the model number from memory and (sadly) after posting checked label on my machine.  The model number is 17-x137cl (directly from the machine's label) (now confirmed by the wife).

I understand the choice is 1 SSD or 1 HDD.  Please confirm...

Re: memory:  Win 10 can handle 64GB, can the 17-x137cl handle this much memory, if so, what kind, speed, etc is approved by HP.  Lastly, can I purchase the memory from HP.

Thank you for your assistance...

From here: http://h10032.www1.hp.com/ctg/Manual/c05122688

It looks like: The RAM depends onthe CPU yours has:

For use in models with 5th generation Intel Core processors, Intel Pentium processors, and Intel Celeron
processors" = PC3L, 12800, 1600-MHz)

"For use in models with 6th generation Intel Core processors" = PC4, 17000, 2133-MHz

I do not see the Max Ram it can handle listed in any manual.

It also looks like it can hgave a SSD OR a HDD but not both.

Thanks W8WCA,

The 17-X137CL has a I7-7500U CPU and running Win 10 Pro 64bit O/S.

Crucial says memory limited to 16G by hp.

Data on O/S says 64G is upper limit.

I have a BDay coming soon, so I can get 2X32G (64 GB total) (which would be a great BDay present, but not sure enough.

Manual doesn't say what (or how much) can be added.
