I suggest installing the HP Support Assistant from the Windows App store on the taskbar.
It may help by providing the Validity sensor you need to use the fingerprint sensor.
If not, you can use the Microsoft update catalog to locate a Windows driver and install for it. (See the link below)
https://catalog.update.microsoft.com/Search.aspx?q=Validity%20Sensor
You might need to use the Device manager to discover the Hardware ID for the sensor. Right click the device and click on Properties
If I remember correctly, there may be a clear fingerprints settings in the BIOS.
You will need to clear the current fingerprints and then disable and enable the fingerprint sensor again.
From the user manual (chapter 7, page 62)
https://h10032.www1.hp.com/ctg/Manual/c02838571.pdf
"Using the fingerprint reader (select models only) Integrated fingerprint readers are available on select computer models. In order to use the fingerprint reader, you must set up a user account with a password on the computer. This account allows you to log on to your computer with a swipe of a designated finger. You may also use the fingerprint reader to fill in password fields on Web sites and other programs that require a logon. Refer to the fingerprint software Help for instructions. After you create your fingerprint identity, you can set up a Single Sign On service that allows you to use your fingerprint scanner to create credentials for any application that requires a user name and password. If your notebook's device manager has an unknown device with a hardware ID of USB\VID_138A&PID_003C, you need to install this fingerprint sensor driver.
This package contains the driver that enables the Validity Fingerprint Sensor in supported notebook models that are running a supported operating system. The fingerprint sensor scans fingerprints for use with biometric security applications.
https://ftp.hp.com/pub/softpaq/sp58501-59000/sp58900.exe
If the driver didn't install, you will have to manually install it and here is how you do that:
Go to the device manager. Click on the unknown device with the hardware ID of USB\VID_138A&PID_003C.
Click on the driver tab. Click on Update driver. Select the Browse my computer for drivers option, and browse to the driver folder that was created when you ran the file.
That folder will be located in C:\SWSetup\sp58900.
Make sure the Include subfolders box is checked and the driver should install.
Then restart the PC.
Then see if the fingerprint sensor works with Windows Hello or you can try the W10 HP Simplepass software from the link below:
This package contains the HP SimplePass Identity Protection Software for the supported notebook models and operating systems. This software protects identity information and account access using the computer owner's fingerprint.

Hi:
The fingerprint sensor is not working because the notebook is missing a bunch of drivers (all of those unknown devices, one of them being the fingerprint sensor).
Identify the unknown device that is the fingerprint sensor and install the driver I posted, following the instructions to manually install the driver if the auto install method doesn't work (and I'm 99% sure it won't automatically install).
The unknown fingerprint sensor driver will have a hardware ID of USB\VID_138A&PID_003C.
Use this guide for how to find the hardware ID for a device:
How to Find Drivers for Unknown Devices in the Device Manager (howtogeek.com)
If you post the hardware ID's for the other unknown devices, I will post the links to the drivers you need for those devices as well.

Hi Paul,
Appreciate you trying to help, but all of those unknown devices are for a network old connected D110 all in one printer. None are for the fingerprint sensor. And the listed two Biometric devices have no properties to investigate. Tried scanning for hardware changes and restarting, nothing changes. Could this be a bios problem as another person suggests?

You're very welcome.
If there's no unknown device with the hardware ID I posted the other day, unfortunately, I wouldn't know what the problem could be.
I have helped many other forum members with that model series and upgrading to W10, and the fingerprint driver is always missing.

Hi Paul,
I deleted the two biometric devices with no properties, restarted Win10 and rescan for new devices, it then allowed me to load your driver. This is what I have see now. it says it needs further config?
Win Hello still does not recognize it, neither does HP Simplepass show setup option for it.
Thanks for your patience.
