Hi @PE-1
Welcome to the HP Support Community! We're here to help you get back up and running.
Thank you for sharing the details. Since your download speed is much higher than your upload speed, let’s go through structured steps to improve the upload performance on Windows:
Step 1: Verify Connection Type
- If you are on Wi‑Fi, connect your PC directly to the router using an Ethernet cable. Wired connections are more stable and usually provide better upload speeds.
- If you must use Wi‑Fi, ensure you are connected to the 5 GHz band instead of 2.4 GHz.
Step 2: Restart Networking Equipment
- Power off your modem and router.
- Wait for 30 seconds, then power them back on.
- Reconnect your PC and test the speed again.
Step 3: Update Network Drivers
- On Windows, press Windows + X and select Device Manager.
- Expand Network adapters.
- Right‑click your adapter and choose Update driver → Search automatically for drivers.
- Restart your PC after updating.
Step 4: Optimize Background Usage
- Press Ctrl + Shift + Esc to open Task Manager.
- Under the Processes tab, check for applications consuming network bandwidth (cloud sync, streaming, large uploads).
- End tasks that are not required during testing.
Step 5: Adjust Network Settings
- Open Settings → Network & Internet → Status.
- Run the Network troubleshooter to detect and fix issues.
- Disable any VPN or proxy temporarily, as these can reduce upload speeds.
Step 6: Test with Different Servers
- Sometimes speed test servers vary in performance. Run multiple tests with different servers to confirm consistency.
- If upload speeds remain low across all servers, the limitation may be from your Internet Service Provider plan.
Step 7: Router Configuration Check
- Log in to your router’s admin page.
- Ensure QoS (Quality of Service) settings are not restricting upload bandwidth.
- Update router firmware if available.
By following these steps, you should see improvement in your upload speed. If after all these checks the upload speed still does not reach closer to your desired 15 Mbps, it may be due to the plan limitations from your provider. In such cases, contacting them to confirm the upload bandwidth provisioned for your connection would be the next step.
