HP Laptop 15
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

No matter how hard I try, my mouse continues to click lock. It constantly click locks, it will highlight random text, drag tabs all over the place and hold down on things I didn't intend it to do. I've rolled back my driver and updated it, I've done everything I've seen to try and fix this and nothing works. It seems that any laptop I've used with a Synaptics Touch Pad has problems and never works as intended after a while. So I'd just like to know how to fix this problem as I've never enabled click lock and DESPISE THE SETTING.

Welcome to HP Community

I have gone through your Post and would like to help

I suggest you download and run the HP Support Assistant from this Link: https://www8.hp.com/us/en/campaigns/hpsupportassistant/hpsupport.html?jumpid=va_r602_us/en/any/psg/p...

HPSA will automatically search for all the latest drivers for your Notebook

  1. Click My devices in the top menu, and then click Updates in the My PC or My notebook pane.

Click Updates in the My notebook pane

  2. Click Check for updates and messages to scan for new updates.

Updates list in HP Support Center

  3. Review the list of updates. Updates with a yellow information icon are recommended. Updates with a blue information icon are optional.

  4. Click the update name for a description, version number, and file size.

  5. Select the box next to any updates you want to install, and then click Download and install.

Also ensure Windows is up to date.

Select the Start  button, and then go to Settings  > Update & security  > Windows Update , and select Check for updates. If Windows Update says your device is up to date, you have all the updates that are currently available

Keep me posted how it goes

Thank you and have a wonderful day 😊

Thanks for responding! Sadly, I tried the steps you suggested, there were no updates available on my device, nor was there a windows update available. I had the support assistant downloaded prior, and I keep my systems up to date, or as up to date as they can be.

Please run a Touchpad Test from F2 Diagnostic and let me know how it goes

- Hold the power button for at least five seconds to turn off the Notebook.
- Turn on the computer and immediately press Esc repeatedly, about once every second.
- When the menu appears, press the F2 key.
- On the main menu, click Component Tests and Touchpad

Sadly once again, those instructions don't seem to work for me. When I follow your set of instructions I get to the diagnostics page, however, "Components Test and Touchpad" isn't an option available to me on that menu. Not sure if I'm doing something wrong or it's just not available for my system.

I understand your concerns.

Please perform the below steps and check.

Press Windows Key + R and enter regedit. Press Enter or click OK.

1.    When Registry Editor opens, go to the HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Synaptics\SynTPEnhkey in the left pane.

2.     In the right pane, right-click the empty space and choose New > DWORD (32-bit Value).

3.    Enter DisableIntPDFeature as the name of the new DWORD and double click it to open its properties.

4.    Select the Hexadecimal option and change the Value data to 33. Click OK.

5.     Close Registry Editor and restart your PC.

After making these changes in the registry, you should see the option to disable your touchpad in Mouse settings.

Press Windows Key + X to open the Win + X menu and select Control Panel from the list.

When Control Panel opens, go to Hardware and Sound section and select Mouse.

1.    When the Mouse settings window opens, you should see the ELAN or Device Settings tab. Switch to it.

2.    Locate Disable internal pointing device when the external USB pointing device is attached option and enable it.

Click Apply and OK to save changes.

Have a nice day!!

For this set of instructions, my problem seems to lie in the first step. HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Synaptics\SynTPEnhkey doesn't seem to exist. Everytime I try and go to that location my system reroutes me to somewhere else, and from there I cannot complete the other steps. I'm not sure if I'm doing something wrong or what

@GeminiVIII,

Attempt using an alternate/external mouse. (If that works when the touchpad is disabled on device manager, it would mean that it's a touchpad failure, However, if the external mouse doesn't work either, it could be a software/driver issue).

Uninstall and reinstall the drivers for your mouse:

Go to the Device Manager and select your mouse. Uninstall it and then restart your computer.

During restart, your mouse driver will automatically be reinstalled.     ·

1. Click on Start and type ‘Device Manager’.

2. Click Device Manager.

3. Click + sign next to Mouse.

4. Right-click on mouse entry and choose "uninstall".

5. Restart your computer.

Hope this helps!

That set of instructions didn't seem to help the problem as it's still happening
