I have all of the updated versions. I just swapped my hard drive to a SSD. Everything I read says to just go in the advanced setting options in your BIOS and change IDE to AHCI, however, there is no advanced BIOS setting option. What's the new way now?

Hi:
The drive controller setting cannot be changed by any means.
What is it set to now?
If your notebook came with a 2.5" hard drive, the drive controller setting will be either on AHCI or RAID, and either of those settings are just fine for a SSD.
If your notebook has an Intel processor and chipset and the drive controller is set to AHCI, go to the device manager, you should see an IDE ATA/ATAPI Controllers device manager category.
Click to expand that category and you should see an Intel model so and so SATA AHCI controller listed there.
If the controller is set to RAID, there will be a Storage Controllers device manager category, and when you click to expand that category, there will be an Intel model so and so RAID controller listed there.

Hello,
It's set either to IDE or RAID for sure because I am using the Samsung magician for maintenance because I have a Samsung EVO installed and it states that AHCI mode is deactivated. My laptop is faster tenfold with just the install. I am no expert by any means. I read a lot that AHCI mode turned on unlocks the full capabilities of an SSD. I don't know how true that is.

Thanks for your help. I went into device manager and it won't state which mode it is set to I am using an Intel chipset. It's an i7. Is there another way to confirm which mode is set to. I find it odd that the BIOS has less options than what it used to.

You're very welcome.
It has to say what SATA mode the controller is set to in the device manager.
All of my Intel PC's do.
Just ignore that Samsung magician report.
I wish they would get rid of that message.
