HP Pavilion 14 am101ne
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

Hi!

I have a HP Pavilion 14' laptop (am101ne) running on windows 10 for about two years. It's been working perfectly fine, except, recently the battery goes dead (charge cycles finished up) and need to be replaced, which I didn't do it yet. And the charging/power light is flashing white since then.

Anyway, tonight I was trying to update any hardware drivers using HP Support Assistant due to re-installation of windows 10. There was an option for updating bios version to F.35 or something like that I suppose, which I selected and the installation progress went fine; The laptop got restarted and bios update screen showed up. It asked for confirming on update, and after I did so, said please do not interfere the process or power down the machine, the system will reset and the screen may flash several times- that's how I can recall it! However, after progress went complete (100%), and the system got restarted, the black screen just keeps on flashing now and then until now, which means more than half an hour!!!

It said "it might flash for several times". OK, but how several? How long should I wait? What should I do?

The charge light is still flashing, the screen is black and flash almost every 8 seconds for one, the internal fan is working on medium speed and rarely slows down for a sec, .... it's like a nightmare!

This is our only laptop (I bought it for my wife) and we need it (both data and to function; I've got a master thesis seminar session this week), I've read this forum loosely and already felt this problem might not solve in some cases!!! So, please help me, the experts. Is it normal? Shall I interfere and try to recover the bios?

I previously had questions about this laptop (CPU/GPU heat problem) which got quite fine answers on this forum, so I really hope there'll be good answer(s)... Thanks!

I've found this topic (https://support.hp.com/us-en/document/c00042629#1bcb8222-81ac-46ec-afa5-f7d2d941e047) which described the process.

I tried this method:

But it continued to this section:

Since there was no change, I finally decided to interfere and reset the laptop using power down. No change either! The BLACK screen goes BLANK (back light turns on) after seconds with system fan(s) fasting up, and turns black again with fan(s) slowing down.

I tried win+B / win+V / win+X power ups, and write a recovery flash using HP product support, named HP bios update and recovery (installer name: sp98427), which is similar to the one I've downloaded and installed using HP Support Assistant in the former pc. Non of these seem to make any difference, the laptop turns on on high speed fan(s) and slow down like going trough a hard reset (without any blinking sound of HDD), the flash drive will not respond (LED blinking) till the black screen turns blank and gets off with it.

I also tried holding Insert+power for 20-30 secs, suggested somewhere in order to wipe/reset CMOS, which was totally irrelevant cause holding power more than 3 secs will result in system power down.

Now, my only hope is to take this piece of **bleep** to some manufactures as soon as the stores open.

Hi

AND F35 is the latest BIOS.

Golden Rule No 1, always have a fully charged battery for BIOS updates.

However...

pefully one of these documents will cover (and solve) your problem...

Hi!

Thank you for your kind reply!

It is very amiable to get helped when seeking one! Though, it was a bit late...

I took my laptop to some kind of manufacturers, which there weren't actually, and they re-programmed the bios chip/IC (idk) using a device they called "programmer" and it costed me half of my monthly revenue!!!

The laptop now says, when it starts, ***" Manufacturer program mode is in unlock mode"***. I'm curios what does it mean!

Anyway, to thank you again for your kind response, I'll give a reply to your guide as such:

-(First link) I've read those manuals, nothing more than "updating bios is a good thing"!

-(Second link) I've use the driver/support link, nothing more than "F35"- needed some recovery version firmware so I could recover my bios using a HP tool recovery flash drive, which I tried with F35 bot it didn't work, however idk why!

-(Third link0 I've read this document and went as it says, step by step. Though, as I mentioned previously, everything seemed to go fine, except when the laptop said" screen may flash ..." it kept on restating/flashing for about an hour till I got tired and intervened.

Moreover, I tried to recover the bios using the method suggested in this article.

-(Forth link) Just as I mentioned, non of these methods seemed to make any change. The system have been starting on high fan speed and etc... .

I had find some articles which suggest that: "if the system powers on, there is no need for re-programming the chip. And, if the system doesn't power on at all, then you need to re-program." Mine did power on, but, the repair man told me he had to re-program the bios, which cost him time and cost me money!

Although, I am very grateful from your response, I'm really willing to know what does it mean when my laptops says, before showing HP logo, ***" Manufacturer program mode is in unlock mode"***. Actually I can search it on the web too, but I think you might have an opinion on this.

Thanks!
