Hi HP Support Team,
I am going to buy the laird thermal pad for my laptop HP Victus 16 with AMD Ryzen 7 5800H and RTX 3060. I cannot find the information about the distance between CPU\GPU and a heat sink (cooling system). Could you please let me know how thick the thermal pad should I purchase? Should it be 05, 1, 2, 2, 2,5 mm?
I also have HP Spectre x360 Convertible 13-aw2007ur. The question is the same. How thick should the thermal pad be?
Thank you in advance!
Victor

@Victor_R2, Welcome to HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
For your Victus by HP 16-e0000
GPU/CPU Die Interface: Uses thermal paste, not thermal pads. So:
- Do NOT use thermal pads on the GPU/CPU direct die area — only thermal paste is required.
Thermal Pads Are Used On:
- VRAM, MOSFETs, chokes, and surrounding power delivery components.
Safe recommendation:
Buy a kit with multiple thicknesses — e.g., 0.5 mm, 1.0 mm, 1.5 mm, 2.0 mm — to ensure good fitment.
For your HP Spectre x360 Convertible 13-aw2007ur
This ultrabook primarily uses thermal paste for CPU cooling. It may use thin thermal pads (if any) on VRMs or SSD shields.
Safe recommendation:
Use 0.5 mm or 1.0 mm thermal pads for any power delivery components. Do not use thermal pads on the CPU itself.
Tips When Replacing:
Use a caliper or soft clay to measure the actual gap between the heatsink and components.
If unsure, buy a variety pack (0.5 mm, 1.0 mm, 1.5 mm) to test fit.
Consider high-performance thermal putty if you're aiming for optimal thermal conductivity and flexibility.
I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day.

Hi Max3A,
Thank you for the reply and your advice. I have never heard that I cannot use phase-change thermal pads on my computer. They are widely used on HP devices, such as Honeywell—PTM7950 and Thermal Grizzly—PhaseSheet PTM.
I just needed to know the gap between the heatsink and the components, but nobody in HP support knows that.
I use “Laird” thermal Pads on my VRAM and MOSFETs.
Thank you.

@Victor_R2, Thank you for your response.
You're absolutely right, phase-change materials (PCMs) like PTM7950 and Thermal Grizzly PhaseSheet are suitable for direct CPU/GPU die contact. I meant that regular silicone thermal pads shouldn't be used on the die, but PCMs like the ones you mentioned are a great choice.
Approximate Thermal Pad Thickness (Victus 16-e0000):
CPU/GPU die: ~0.1–0.2 mm (use thermal paste or PTM7950)
VRAM: 1.0 mm
MOSFETs/VRMs: 1.5 mm
Chokes/coils: 2.0 mm
Spectre x360 13-aw2007ur:
CPU die: ~0.1 mm (use paste or PTM)
VRMs: 0.5–1.0 mm
You're doing it right with Laird pads for VRAM/VRMs. For best fit, measure compression or get a variety pack (0.5–2.0 mm).
I hope this helps!
