Hello HP Community,

I’ve been facing an issue with my HP laptop lately, and I’m hoping someone here can help me out. My laptop’s battery seems to drain really fast, and it’s becoming quite frustrating. I’ve tried a few things on my own, but nothing seems to work.

Here’s what I’ve noticed so far:

  • Battery Drain: My laptop’s battery used to last around 6-7 hours, but now it barely lasts 3-4 hours, even when I’m just doing light tasks like browsing or writing.

  • Background Apps: I’ve checked my task manager, and it seems like there are some apps running in the background, but even after closing them, the battery drain doesn’t seem to improve.

  • Power Settings: I’ve tried switching to the power saver mode and reducing the brightness, but it doesn’t seem to make much of a difference.

I haven’t been able to pinpoint what’s causing this issue, and I’m not sure if it’s a software or hardware problem. I’ve read that it could be a problem with the battery itself, but I’d like to know if anyone here has faced similar issues and found a solution.

A Few Things I’ve Tried:

  1. Battery Saver Mode: Turned it on, but no real improvement.

  2. Reducing Screen Brightness: Definitely helps a bit but doesn’t fix the overall issue.

  3. Checking Background Processes: Closed a bunch of unnecessary apps, but it’s still draining fast.

A Little About My Setup:

  • Model: HP Pavilion x360 (Model 14)

  • OS: Windows 11

  • Battery Health: I haven’t checked this yet, but I assume it’s fine.

If anyone has any suggestions, or if you’ve experienced something similar, I’d love to hear your thoughts. Could it be a setting issue or something related to the hardware?

Also, if there are any HP tools or settings that I might have missed, please let me know!

@Daniel-wagner, Welcome to HP Support Community,

Thank you for posting your query; I’m here to help by guiding you through steps to resolve this issue

It sounds like you're dealing with an annoying issue that can definitely disrupt your productivity. Let’s walk through a few troubleshooting steps and checks that may help you figure out if this is a software issue, or if it's potentially related to the hardware.

Check Battery Health

Open Command Prompt (as Admin) and type: powercfg /batteryreport

Open the generated report in your browser and check if the Full Charge Capacity is much lower than the Design Capacity. If it is, your battery might be worn out.

Update Battery Drivers

Right-click Start > Device Manager > Batteries.

Right-click Microsoft ACPI-Compliant Control Method Battery > Update driver.

Restart your laptop after updating.

Run HP Battery Check

Open HP Support Assistant (search in Start menu).

Go to Battery Check and see if it detects any issues.

Run HP Diagnostics

Restart the laptop, press Esc while it’s booting, then press F2 to run diagnostics.

Run a Battery Test to check for any issues.

I hope this helps.

Please feel free to reply here if you have any questions or if you need further clarification on any of the steps.

Take care and have a good day.
