Hi
i have a Omen 16 laptop, I want to power it or at least charge in in a car with 12V.
With USB C 100W it does not charge, I got an error message power supply not supported.
Should this work, is is an issue with the power supply?
Or do I need a 20V charger for the power socket? Will there 100W be enogh?
Unfortunately the manual does not help here ...
Thanks a lot
Chris

What is the model/product of your machine ? Does it support USB PD ? Normally HP Omen machines require a 200W to 280W PSU therefore 100W is too weak.
Again I need to know what is its existing PSU wattage rating and its USB-C port specs to be able to have more comments.
Regards.

Hi,
it is a HP Omen 16 model AX211NGW, lD 8D687EA#ABD.
Yes is supports USB PD, minimum 100W. But 100W PD is not accepted when turned on, it also does not charge when turned off.
The power supply is 230W all together and 100W on this port. The cable should support 240W.
Best regards
Chris

But DOES the PSU itself give PD 230W ? For 100W it should charge your machine when off.
Regards.

Hi,
the USB PD Power Supply supports 240W on all ports which probably does not matter here, it procides 100W on the USB C port that I use. It does not charge when the laptop is on, and it doen not charge when turned off.
I tried both USB C ports on the right side.
Best regards

The USB PD 100W is too weak that why it ONLY charges your machine when off. As mentioned on my previous reply above, with 100W it should charge your machine when off.
In short, you need 230W at least

Your computer has Thunderbolt USB-C specs. Does your adapter support that ? What is your EXISTING charger now. Your charger is one of the following
200 W Smart AC power adapter (only with RTX™ 4050)
230 W Smart AC power adapter (with RTX™ 4070 and with RTX™ 4060)
280 W Smart AC power adapter (only with RTX™ 4070)
You need an adapter with wattage ratting at least equal to the existing charger.
I actually use other option when on the road (for my computers. cameras (photo/video)

Hi,
the original 230V AC charger is the 280W.
The 12V DC charger is USB PD 5V3A, 5.2V3A, 9V3A, 12V3A, 15V3A, 20.3V3A, 20.5V4.7A, 20V4.5A, 20V5A, 100W Max.
But the laptop says this is not sufficient when running. If turned off nothing happens, no charging at all.
Does this laptop supports charging with USB at all, and if yes, which specs are needed?
Of course a 12V to 230V would work, but with quite a lot of extra money/volume/loss that I would like to avoid.
Best regards
Chris

Not much we can do, you can use an inverter as mentioned before, they sell 500W or even 1000W for example
I believe at the end of this year, new machines would use new standard 100W USB-C chargers. This is a very hot topic now.
