@Havenoclue3, Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
If you're looking to charge your HP laptop using a USB cable, here’s what you need to know:

Can You Charge an HP Laptop with a USB Cable?

Yes, but only if your HP laptop supports USB-C charging. Not all HP laptops have this capability. Here's how to check and proceed:

Step 1: Check for a USB-C Port with Power Delivery (PD)

Look for a USB-C port on your laptop. It typically looks like a small oval-shaped port. If it has a lightning bolt or battery icon, it likely supports charging.

  • If your laptop has only USB-A ports (the traditional rectangular ones), you cannot charge it via USB.

Step 2: Use a Compatible USB-C Charger

If your laptop supports USB-C charging, use a USB-C charger that meets the required wattage

Using a lower-wattage charger may result in slow charging or no charging at all.

Step 3: Plug It In

  1. Connect the USB-C cable to the laptop’s USB-C port.
  2. Plug the other end into the power adapter and then into a wall outlet.
  3. Your laptop should begin charging. Look for the charging indicator light or battery icon change.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
