Hello everyone,

How can  I check what amount of RAM my motherboard can support? I want to add another drive and RAM to my HP as050tu. There is currently 1 512GB SSD and 16GBRAMDDR4(2X8GB) installed.  My CPU is Intel iCore i7 6560U.

Thanks

Hi,

Is it the exact cable (part number) ? My first guess would be the cable.

Hi,

Max RAM is 16GB of DDR4 2133MHz RAM (2x8GB)

Many Users with HP DDR4 systems have successfully installed 32GB of RAM with 7th and 8th gen Intel Core CPUs. However, yours is a 6th gen CPU. So, it might actually work with 32GB, however, it is an expensive risk to take.

You can add a 2.5" SSD or Hard drive

You will need:

rubber bracket part number 857797-001

hard drive cable part number 857806-001

You can try an online search with part number

Example:

https://www.ebay.com/sch/i.html?_from=R40&_trksid=m570.l1313&_nkw=857806-001&_sacat=0

or HP Parts store:

https://parts.hp.com/hpparts/default.aspx

on page 30 of the service manual you can see the steps to install the drive:

Hope it helps,

David

I tried inserting a SSD on the spare kit but my laptop wouldn't turn on but the power led is .  What could be the problem?

Does this mean that the spare kit is only for HDD? We just use a regular HP SATA cable and a 1 TB SSD in my local electronic store for testing.
