Hello,

I need help as I am not good with this.  I purchase a new M.2 SSD for the empty slot on my Omen Max 16-ahoo30ca P/N:  B81JTUA#ABL.

The documentation says:  Internal storage 2tb PCIe Gen4 NVMe performance M.2 SSD.  Expansion slots 2 M.2 SSD currently empty (I filled it with new m.2 SSD).

As per the title I added a 2nd SSD on the empty storage slot and it will not be recognized !  I went to the BIOS, System and can’t enable it.

As per the HP website, my HP & system info & BIOS & BestBuy.ca factory storage is.

HP Hard Disk/SSD information:  HDD/SSD 1 type NVMe has a:  Samsung model MZVL81T0HELB-00BH1 detected, serial# S79UNX3XC88480

Capacity 953GB

Samsung 990 PRO M.2 2280 1TB PCI-E Gen 4 x4, NVMe 1.3c Internal Solid State Drive w/ Micro Connectors 5mm Low-Profile Heat Sink Kit & Mounting Screws

Brand: Samsung               Model: MZ-V9P1T0B/AM-A (MemoryExpress & BestBuy.ca):     Web Code: 16078461 (bestbuy.ca)

I purchased at bestbuy.ca and installed a:  Samsung 990 PRO M.2 2280 1TB PCI-E G4n 4 x4, NMVe  1.3c internal Solid State Drive with Micro Connectors 5mm Low -Profile Heat Sink Kit & Mounting Screws (none of which can be installed).

HP Hard Disk/SSD information:  HDD/SSD 2 type NVMe has a:  Samsung model SSD 990 EVO 1TB, serial# S7M3NS0X133246B Capacity 931GB

I hope I did not buy the wrong M.2 !  Any pointers would be much appreciated, thank you.

Hi:

The drive you bought should have worked fine.

Since you are using it for storage, did you initialize the disk with the Windows disk management utility?

When you install a new disk that has never been formatted, it won't show up in 'This PC' until you initialize it.

See this link for how to do that:

Hello Mr. Tikkanen.

Thank you for your swift reply.

By initializing you do mean formatting !  No I did not.  But I need to find it for that.  I will try tomorrow, thank you for the advice and in due time I will reply with the result.

Cheers,

Goglu

You're very welcome.

It should show up in the disk management utility

It may not necessarily show up in the BIOS.

If it doesn't show up in the disk management utility, then there's a problem that I wouldn't know how to fix.

Well I am back and found time to work on the issue.  Please open full page/or expend/or Copy&Paste to keep the formatting.  From my research…

Hello Mr. Tikkanen

I tried again but no ssd showing.

I even reset my laptop and started from scratch.

Next thing I will do is open the lid and inspect for bad or no connection, one never knows.

The m.2 was sold as new, the box sealed, the content intact.

Thank you for your input though.
