Hi, my 2014 laptop, HP Envy 17t-J100 touchscreen, has an MSATA port on the motherboard. I want to enable it so I can use it and install the operating system there, and use the HDD only to save files. Can this be done? Has anyone tried and succeeded?

Hi:

 

Below is the link to the service manual for your notebook.

Chapter 1 indicates the notebook comes with a mSATA port that supports 24 GB or 32 GB mSATA SSD's.

 

Those are used as caches to accelerate the mechanical hard drive and according to this discussion cannot work as boot drives.
