I have an HP Envy Phoenix running Windows 8.1 Pro. I want to change the boot sequence in the BIOS to boot from the DVD drive so I can reformat the harddrive and install Linux. For the life of me I cannot get into the BIOS. I've tried using ESC, F2, F9 and F10 during power up with no luck. I don't get any flash screens as my monitor stays in power save mode until Windows starts. I've also tried doing a shift-restart from the power screen. This takes me to another screen where I can go to troubleshoot-advanced. There is an option to start in UEFI mode. When I click on this it just comes up with a screen that says Restart. I click the restart button on this screen and the computer shuts down, power stays on but it never starts with the bios or with Windows.,

Sometimes it is difficult to get to the bios setup especially if the computer is fast.
To get into the BIOS use F10 or the ESC key. F10 should work unless you have accidently locked out the functions keys.

Turn power on, the keyboard will flash and shortly after that the display will be enabled. Start tapping the F10 or ESC shortly after the LEDS blink or when you see the display screen first light up. No faster than once a second. If you wait too long, or tap to soon or too fast, you will need to power down the PC and try again.

If you tap the ESC key then a diagnostic menu may show up. Press F2 for diagnostics or F10 to get into the bios.
Do not update the BIOS if the diagnostics reveal a memory or disk drive problem.

I looked here for Envy Phoenix but I only see models like 15-xxx  for "Envy"
